CBCL/6-18, TRF, YSR/11-18: General psychological symptoms (e.g., depression, anxiety, somatic problems, etc), social problems, aggression, defiance, attention problems, thought problems, and conduct problems. CBCL/1.5-5, C-TRF: Reactivity, sleep problems, aggression, attention problems, general psychological symptomatology (depression, anxiety, somatic problems, etc.), developmental problems, and defiance.

This measure is intended to assess competencies and problem behaviours in children and adolescents. It may also provide information regarding the presence of mental health problems in children and adolescents. It is NOT a diagnostic measure.

This measure may be used to identify problem behaviours and competencies of an individual child/adolescent, or to measure change in behaviour over time or following a treatment program.

CBCL/6-18, TRF, YSR/11-18: Anxious/depressed, withdrawn/depressed, somatic complaints, social problem, thought problems, attention problems, rule-breaking behaviour, aggressive behaviour, affective problems, anxiety problems, somatic problems, attention deficit/hyperactivity problems, oppositional/defiant problems, and conduct problems. CBCL/1.5-5, C-TRF: Syndromes (Emotionally reactive, anxious/depressed, somatic complaints, withdrawn, sleep problems (CBCL only), attention problems, and aggressive behaviour), Internalizing, Externalizing, Total problems, and DSM-oriented scales (affective problems, anxiety problems, pervasive developmental problems, attention deficit/hyperactivity problems, and oppositional defiant problems).

Most are a 3-point Likert-scale from 0 (Not True (as far as you know)) to 2 (Very True or Often True). Each form also has different introductory questions that may be rated on a Likert scale (with varying numbers of options and anchor points), be open-ended, or multiple-response.

Scoring can be done by hand or with the ADM software module. Scoring and interpretation require training in standardized assessment. The author states that this training is generally equivalent to at least a Master's degree or two years of residency in pediatrics, family practice, or psychiatry.

2,368 children from 42 states in the U.S. Ages ranged from 4 to 18, and the demographic composition of the sample included many ethnic groups and SES levels.

CBCL/1.5-5: The authors report test-retest reliabilities of 0.68-0.92 (mean = 0.85) and inter-rater reliabilities of 0.48-0.67 (mean = 0.61).

C-TRF: The authors report test-retest reliabilities of 0.57-0.91 (mean = 0.81) and inter-rater reliabilites of 0.21-0.79 (mean = 0.65).

CBCL/6-18: The authors report test-retest reliabilities of 0.73-0.94, internal consistency reliabilities (alphas) of 0.63-0.97, and inter-rater reliabilities of 0.57-0.88.

YSR/11-18: The authors report test-retest reliabilities of 0.67-0.91, and internal consistency reliabilities (alphas) of 0.55-0.95.

TRF: The authors report test-retest reliabilities of 0.60-0.96, internal consistency reliabilities (alphas) of 0.72-0.997, and inter-rater reliabilities of 0.20-0.76.

CBCL/1.5-5 and C-TRF: The authors report evidence of discriminative, convergent, and predictive validities.
